My arrival at the Cape from Zimbabwe brought me back to a different time when we arrived as new immigrants. It had been exactly sixty-four years since we had stepped ashore after a three-week journey from Southampton.
Four years ago, Cape Town was on our planned route as we were circumnavigating the globe on our yacht Sequitur. While anchored in the Falkland Islands and preparing for our crossing to Cape Town, we ran into mechanical difficulties. With the remoteness of the Islands and the unavailability of spare parts among others reasons, we returned to North America. It would have been spectacular arriving on Sequitur in Cape Town which coincided with our arrival in February sixty years prior.
I once again took the cable car and returned to the table top with its breathtaking view.
The central plateau stretches for 3 kilometres from side to side edged by impressive cliffs.
I spent the next two hours, feeling on top of the world walking the trails along its edge, enjoying the view and the quietness that came with it. There were many paths to follow and an easy walk but was aware of the fog that could close in unexpectedly.

To reach the top there are several routes to climb and some of them quite dangerous, so I opted for the revolving cable car with a panoramic view.
The ever present view of Table Mountain
