Below the active flight path into YVR, Vancouver International Airport, lies the small suburb of Burkeville.
The construction was funded by the federal government of Canada in 1943.
Street name has an aeronautical theme with the name of aeroplane manufacturers.
It provided housing for the employees of the nearby Boeing plant and was named after the then president Stanley Burke.
In 1939, the Boeing Aircraft Company established Boeing of Canada with its headquarters in Vancouver BC.
A manufacturing plant was built on Sea Island, beside the Fraser River and during WWII it was building PBY Catalina Aircraft for offshore air patrol.
During that time, Boeing Aircraft of Canada manufactured 362 PBY flying boats and amphibians. They also made 16 Blackburn Shark torpedo aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force.
During its peak in 1945 the plant had 7000 employees and closed immediately after V-J Day and many of these employees were women.
After the war, most of these homes were sold to returning veterans.
The village has since been annexed by Richmond and is the only residential area on Sea Island.
Vancouver International Airport dominates the remainder of Sea Island along with the industrial zone.
